New orchestra launches bold online presence
són is a brand new musical enterprise in one of the growing cities in the south of the UK, Southampton. A fresh and innovative professional chamber orchestra, són has just released its website – www.thesonproject.com – and will be populating the pages with more content as their portfolio of successful concerts and projects expands.
The team behind the new ensemble say that the time, and the location, are just right for són. “There’s definitely a need for a high-quality, flexible professional outfit for Southampton and the Hampshire region as a whole,” says Artistic Director Robin Browning. “It’s by far the country’s largest city without a professional orchestra, until now. And, if you think about it, this doesn’t make sense – there are two leading universities here, a growing cultural quarter led by the Nuffield theatre – itself one of the best regional theatres in the country. And the “catchment” area for potential audiences stretches right around from Sussex to Wiltshire and Dorset, as well as boasting one of the top concert halls in the region, Southampton’s highly-regarded Turner Sims, where we’re planning our launch event in the Autumn. It’s a great area for new artistic growth, and just the right time for investment in the arts, too.”
Keep an eye out for són as they begin their artistic journey, and maybe you’ll catch them live at one of their opening concerts or education events. In the meantime, visit their new website for more details.
