Latest News: SÓN announced as Orchestra in Association at Southampton’s Turner Sims – find out more here

SÓN is Southampton’s professional orchestra, bringing top quality orchestral music, life-changing education projects and an inspiring outreach programme to everyone. Scroll down to read about our concerts, hear us live on stage, watch our films and learn more about how you can support our activities.

The 2018–19 Season brings some musical legends to Turner Sims to share the stage with our wonderful musicians, including Honorary Patron John Lill – continuing our Beethoven 20:20 cycle together on 2nd Feb – and another Turner Sims Associate, violist Lawrence Power, with whom we launch our season this autumn.

We’re also dramatically expanding our outreach and education programme, forming new partnerships with organisations across the south, developing new musical projects with children in special needs settings, and collaborating with physicists and marine biologists who’ll work alongside our musicians and workshop leaders to inspire youngsters everywhere with live music.

2018 brought our first series of SÓNic Interventions – four summer performance events at John Hansard Gallery in their brand-new city-centre space. As the current season unfolds, we’ll announce details of the next four performances, running throughout the season until summer 2019 – each in response to a particular artist, exhibition or installation – and sure to offer an eclectic mix of old and new in a breathtaking new setting.

SÓN – Your Orchestra for your city

SÓN is a versatile & virtuosic chamber orchestra, based in the city of Southampton, UK. Born in 2015, we have quickly established ourselves on the UK concert scene, as well as contributing to the city’s much-heralded cultural renewal. We’ve successfully captured the public’s imagination with sell-out concerts, collaborations with world-class soloists, and a flair for innovative programming.

SÓN Education – Changing young lives one note at a time

In only 3 years, SÓN has impacted the lives of hundred of youngsters across the city through education projects. Whether as part of Supersónic (our early-grades youth orchestra), the iPad Concerto – in collaboration with our partners, Southampton Music Hub, or during our workshop events at Cedar Special School, we believe no child should be denied a musical experience and education, whatever their circumstances.
